INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - IFD rescue crews worked 35 minutes to free a trapped driver following an early morning crash on the city's northeast side.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, police and firefighters were called to East 35th Street and North Keystone Avenue.

A witness told police the driver heading north on Keystone suddenly veered off to the left, crossing southbound lanes and striking a utility pole in a huge explosion.

Emergency crews had to cut the entire roof of the car off in order to free the driver.  The victim was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
