INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An east side Indianapolis woman and her daughter had to evacuate their burning home after her attempts to put out a laundry room fire failed.
Sara Hudson was doing laundry late Wednesday night when she thought she smelled smoke.
She discovered fire around her clothes dryer and tried to fight the fire herself.
When she realized she was not making any progress, she alerted her daughter and they evacuated the house along with the family dog and cat.
Eleven Indianapolis fire units were dispatched to 8124 Wysong Drive at 11:29 pm. Wednesday. There was smoke showing upon their arrival.
The blaze was mostly contained to the laundry room, but there was smoke damage throughout the one-story house.
Firefighters noted the smoke detectors needed batteries and remind the public to not attempt to fight a fire yourself.
