INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Embattled Indianapolis businessman Tim Durham is back in more comfortable surroundings, staying with his sister in an exclusive neighborhood on Geist Reservoir, neighbors say.
A judge forced Durham to stay in a halfway house over the weekend, until he produced financial information for the court. But now he is on home detention and ordered to stay in the state. And his surroundings are more in line with what he has been used to as a high-rolling financier.
24-Hour News 8 received tip after tip about where he is staying, so we scoped it out.
It's a far cry from the Volunteers of America halfway house where Durham was forced to stay for several days with convicted felons.
Diamond Pointe is an exclusive and gated neighborhood, part of Geist Reservior.
"I think everybody kind of keeps to themselves," said one of the neighborhood’s residents, Anthony Morales.
But everybody living here hasn't kept quiet.
24-Hour News 8 learned from several people who live there that Durham is staying in the community with his sister.
Federal prosecutors accuse Durham of stealing more than $200 million from investors at his Fair Finance company. Monday, a federal magistrate judge released Durham on home detention with a relative until the case goes to court.
We attempted to get a response through the neighborhood call box, but got this recorded answer: "The party you are trying to reach is currently not accepting calls at this number.”
Morales took us into Diamond Pointe. He said he knows Durham and lives next door to his sister.
"I just don't agree with what he did," Morales said.
Chopper 8 flew over the Geist home. Morales drove 24 Hour News 8 by the house on the ground.
He said some neighbors have started whispering about the alleged crime, saying things like: " I wouldn't have done that to my worst enemy."
A neighbor who didn't want to go on camera said he saw Durham unloading things from an SUV.
Durham was released from the halfway house because he provided a 20-page financial disclosure to the court. Durham had to swear under oath that the financial disclosure was accurate. His is set to go to trial in June.9238
