INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Gary Brackett will deliver the keynote address at the state's Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration on Jan. 17 at the Indiana Statehouse.

The theme of the program is "Living in the footsteps of a King."

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission sponsors the annual event. Executive Director Jamal Smith says Brackett's rise to one of the best defensive players in the NFL is truly inspiring.

The Colts signed Bracket as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers in 2003, and over the next 17 months he lost his mother, father and an older brother to various illnesses. Bracket overcame the personal adversity to become one of the defensive leaders for the 2007 Super Bowl champions.
