INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An abandoned eyesore in the Fountain Square neighborhood may soon become home to the country's largest Rugby facility.

The Indiana Youth Rugby Foundation wants to transform the old "Twin Aire" Drive-In movie theater. They would turn the 26-acre lot into a multi-purpose rugby facility.

The 4.7 million dollar project would include five Rugby fields that could also be used for soccer.

Additionally, the project would include a community center-splash park, workout facilities, and much more. Organizers say they've received a lot of support for the proposed project.

“We actually have support through the Indiana Sports Corp we have met with them, with the city. They are excited and interested and encouraging about the project and now really we are just in the fund raising phase,” said Michelle Leroux Dir. Indiana Youth Rugby.

There are currently 1,800 members playing in Indiana Youth Rugby.  They've already raised $1.2 million and say they need $500,000 more before the project can begin “moving dirt”.
