INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis family of six is being treated for injuries after they escaped their burning home early Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. a neighbor called 911 to report the house at 1209 W. 36th St. was on fire with people trapped inside.

Dominique Clark and Ardis Griffin, along with their four children, managed to escape the burning home.

The two adults were taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital for treatment of cuts and smoke inhalation. They were listed as stable Wednesday morning.

The four children, ages 2, 10, 12 and 15, were taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health suffering from cuts and smoke inhalation and were listed as stable as well.

When units of the Indianapolis Fire Department arrived, the family had escaped to a neighbor's home across the street.

Two caged family dogs perished in the fire.

There was heavy fire showing when fire crews arrived, and firefighters mounted an offensive attack with aerial operations on the two-story wood frame residence. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes.

Damage to the home was extensive, and fire officials estimate the loss to be around $75,000.

The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious but remains under investigation.
