INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One person died in a crash Tuesday night on Interstate 74 on the southeast side, police said, and traffic is restricted in the area.
The one-vehicle crash happened after 9 p.m. Tuesday near the 97-mile marker of eastbound I-74, near Thompson Road. INDOT said traffic could be restricted for hours, and emergency crews were still on the scene as of about 11:45 p.m.
Indiana State Police Tropper Derek Miller said the driver of a pickup truck was thrown from the vehicle when it flipped into a field along the interstate. He was westbound on I-74, crossed the median into eastbound traffic and hit a guardrail, then the vehicle flipped into a cornfield, ISP said.
Miller said preliminary investigation revealed alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
A male passenger was injured in the crash and was taken to an area hospital, Indiana State Police said.
