Fatal shooting reported on east side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Police said person was fatally shot Friday night on the city's east side.

Officer were called to the 7600 block of East Penway Street, near 38th Street and Shadeland Avenue, at about 9:45 p.m. Friday. By about 11 p.m., police were confirming a person had been killed.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said a 24-year-old woman was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
