INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indiana Fever have won the WNBA Championship against the Minnesota Lynx.
The Fever beat the Lynx 87-78, taking their first championship title in the team's history. This is the city's first professional basketball championship since the 1973 Indiana Pacers won the ABA crown.
Fever fans came out in droves to support the Indiana Fever, as the team went for the championship win over Minnesota.
“I’m glad; I hope it has more exposure for next year, it was nice seeing the balcony open, it was nice seeing the arena packed, and I’m glad it's bringing a lot of exposure to the fever they deserve it,” said Lindsey Mcelroy, a Fever season ticket holder.
“A lot of stress. You were hoping for a game like Friday… it was a lot closer today. It was exciting, it was just great. Just good to have another championship in Indiana,” said Eric Schwarz.

“I am so excited. I am so excited. I have been a Fever fan forever. I bought full tickets this year.. and they win! How exciting is that?! Go Fever!” said Alyson Gurganus, another Fever Fan.
Thousands of fans packed Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the game. Many fans stayed downtown to eat dinner after the Colts game, then headed to cheer on the Fever.
“This year is their season to win it,” said fan Cindy Reed. “They’ve been playing so well.”
“Look at this. This is great,” said Fever spokesman Eddie White. “I think a lot of people did the old double header. Stay after the Colts game, eat downtown, now they’re walking in here.”

Lowell Schroeder and his wife Linda did just that.
“We were here for the Colts game, changed shirts, then came over here for the Fever game,” explained Lowell.
The day was big for Indy’s downtown economy. Businesses reported great sales from the back to back games.
The excitement has helped Fever merchandise sell as well, in incomparable amounts.
“It’s been absolutely huge. Friday night was the best night in franchise history for merchandise sales. Sold over 1,500 T-shirts,” said Gary Nelson, Director of Merchandising for Pacers Sports Entertainment.
From the red crowd in the atrium, to the sold-out hype inside, Hoosiers came out to support their women’s team.
“In 2009 when they did it, they had the crowds come in, but it wasn’t the feeling they’re getting this year. It’s their year. Indiana has the championship,” added Reed.
