INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A Monday morning fire at Gateway West Condominiums damaged one apartment.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, at about 7:34 a.m., a man called 9-1-1 after he smelled smoke and saw fire in his apartment, in the Gateway West Apartment complex, on 38th Street between North High School Road and Moller Road.

Heavy smoke was showing when IFD arrived on the scene, a release said. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported. The man’s daughter, niece and a dog were in the home when the first started. The fire didn’t spread to any other units. No one occupied apartments on either side of the one that caught fire.

IFD says two fire hydrants were frozen and firefighters were forced to use another farther away.

The estimated damage of the apartment is $75,000, the release said.

The fire is under investigation.
