INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - When Indianapolis firefighters arrived to a house fire Wednesday night, they had limited options to fight the fire as ammunition stored in a burning garage was detonating.

Firefighters had to try to fight the fire from outside the home while taking cover from the detonating ammunition, Indianapolis Fire Department officials said.

Firefighters were called to the 7800 block of Ithaca Way shortly before 10:30 p.m. One of the residents said she heard a loud sound from the garage. When her son went to check it out, he found fire and the family got out of the home.

It took firefighters 45 minutes to get the fire under control. No one was injured.

Fire officials said the home suffered $200,000 in structural damage and another $50,000 in contents inside the home that were damaged or destroyed.
