Fire crews rescue 22-year-old cat

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A 22-year-old cat was rescued from a fire that broke out in the old Art Village Restaurant on Raymond Street Wednesday afternoon.

The Indianapolis Fire Department was called to the 500 block of E. Raymond St. just before 4 p.m. Wednesday to the report of an apartment fire.

When crews arrived they found heavy smoke showing.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and stopped it from spreading to the attic. One tenant was not home at the time of the fire.

When she learned of the incident, she immediately arrived home, fearing for her 22-year-old cat, Tabatha. Firefighters were able to rescue the cat from the apartment.

All of the apartments in the building suffered smoke and/or water damage.

Tenants are working with Victims Assistance for temporary shelter.
