INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A fire broke out and destroyed a home near the Butler campus Sunday morning.
According to a release from the Indianapolis Fire Department, two male residents were home when they heard smoke detectors going off and smelled smoke. They quickly evacuated the home and into the cold.
Resident John Douglas told firefighters he saw flames coming from behind a couch where a power strip was plugged in. He told firefighters he believes the power strip was overloaded, causing the fire to break out. However, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Officials say nobody was hurt in this incident, however the home is a total loss.
The four residents of the home will stay with relatives for the time being.
