Fire forces family from home

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - 4 people escaped injury after heavy fire destroyed their garage and forced them out of their home.

Tyrone Carothers told firefighters he was asleep on the back patio, when he heard loud popping noises coming from the garage.

He kicked open the garage door and found flames and heavy smoke inside.

He ran into the house to alert his mother, niece and nephew.

All 3 escaped unharmed.

Beverly Carothers was treated at the scene for breathing problems and released.

The family are currently staying with neighbors.

The fire gutted the garage and back porch, and slightly damaged the attic as well.

Damage is estimated at 50-thousand dollars.
