INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Wayne Township firefighters battled an apartment building fire Friday morning.
Crews were sent to the 3100 block of Island Club Drive around 10 a.m. Wayne Township Fire Department officials said it was a second-alarm fire.
Seven units were heavily damaged by fire and water and approximately 20 people have been displaced.
The incident took 45 minutes to get under control with 50 firefighters from four agencies on hand.
Crews say the preliminary cause of the fire is a lightning strike. After an evacuation was made on the building, commanders made the choice to pull firefighters from the building due to a risk of collapse.
There were no injuries to civilians or to firefighters.
