INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The city of Indianapolis is remembering 9/11 on the eleventh anniversary of the attacks on America.
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has directed that all flags throughout the state be lowered to half-staff on September 11 in honor of Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Daniels' order is in accordance with an order made by President Obama. Obama has also called all Americans to observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. on Tuesday.
There are also a number of local ceremonies and memorials scheduled throughout the day to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11.
National Guardsmen and military civilians will be taking a moment of silence in remembrance of 9/11 victims.
Mayor Ballard is inviting locals to join him at the Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery to honor those who work in public safety and our nation's first responders.
The event will include a breakfast and special memorial service. Indianapolis firefighter Greg Hess will be presented with the Crown Hill Freedom Award. Hess is the person responsible for bringing the Twin Tower beams to the Indianapolis 9/11 Memorial.
The Airport will also host a memorial in the Civic Plaza. A section of World Trade Center steel will be placed on display during a ceremony. An honor guard will also make an appearance during the ceremony.
Furthermore, the man who oversaw compensation for 9/11 victim's families takes a visit to Indianapolis Tuesday. Kenneth Feinberg will make a visit to the IU School of Law.
Feinberg is also responsible for the formula to distribute money to victims of the collapse at the State Fair.
