Former PTA Treasurer jailed for theft

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The former Glenns Valley Elementary School PTA Treasurer, Candace N. Cadwell was arrested by the Indiana State Police Organized Crime and Corruption Unit on Friday.

Investigators were made aware of missing funds from the school's PTA.

The alleged crime happened over a two year period from June 2009 to June 2011.

Approximately $11,000 was found missing from the PTA funds.

34-year-old Cadwell was the former treasurer of the school's Parent Teacher Association.

Cadwell is charged with one count of Theft, a class D felony.

Charges were filed in Marion County and Cadwell turned herself into authorities at the Marion County Adult Processing Center on Friday.

The Indiana State Police Organized Crime and Corruption Unit encourages everyone keep good records of all financial accounts and documents to avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime.

Because of this theft, Glenns Valley Elementary had to cancel several annual events for the students because there were no funds.

Glenns Valley Elementary is located in Indianapolis.
