Frantic parents search for kids after crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It was a heartbreaking thought as parents whose kids go to Indianapolis Lighthouse Charter School didn't know whether their kids were at school, on the bus involved in the accident, and if so if they were hurt.

“I tried calling the school I couldn't get through so I just went straight to the scene they couldn't tell me if they were on the bus or not,” says Candy Schell who found her kids safely at school.

Schell's kids missed this bus that crashed into a support beam of a bridge killing the driver and student while injuring 10 others.

After learning of the accident, many parents rushed to the scene to find their children.

“The older one he knows, but I decided to just come home stay there and tell them the news before they found out on their own," explained Carmen Tello who took her children home for the day.

When a bus carrying the children not injured in the crash showed up at the school, parents were seen running, crying, embracing one another as they found their children.

“Thank God they're alive," said grandmother Barbara Bishop.

“This is so scary, but I'm just praying to have God have mercy on all the children,” explained Beverly Watkins.

Indianapolis Lighthouse Charter School dismissed early Monday afternoon, in light of the accident.
