INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indy Parks will be offering free water safety classes at all 19 of its pools from now until June 14.
Two children drowned over the weekend, and parents in both cases said the children couldn’t swim. According to USA Swimming, 70 percent of black children, 60 percent of Hispanic children and 42 percent of white children cannot swim. Children of parents who can’t swim are far less likely to learn how.
The Indy Parks classes are designed for swimmers of all ages. Classes start 45 minutes before pools open. Free access to the pool is granted for attending a class the same day.
The lessons learned deal with pools and other bodies of water.
