Fuel surcharge for DPS under review

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Department of Public Safety has placed a hold on a policy that would put a fuel surcharge on take-home vehicles for all DPS employees.

A final policy is expected in the next few weeks and has an implementation date for Jan. 2013.

Director of the Department of Public Safety Troy Riggs say the fee is a fiscally responsible step to offset gas and maintenance costs of off-duty vehicle use. He says this is in consideration of the city’s tight budget.

The Director’s office is working on a proposal with the FOP and Local 416 that will work best for all parties.
