INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A fundraiser was held Saturday night to benefit Officer Matt Fox.

Officer Fox was shot in the line of duty this summer after a traffic stop in Fortville .

Police say Fox attempted to stop a vehicle on July 27 when the vehicle ran off, leading Fox on a pursuit. The driver stopped at an intersection and shot at Fox in an ambush-type attack.

Fox was hit in the chest with a bullet. He put his hands up and a bullet grazed his head but did not penetrate.

He was released from the hospital in August and returned to work in October for light duty.

The silent auction fundraiser was held at the Just Teasin’ Hair Salon located at 9624 Allisonville Road. Items at the auction were donated from Mellow Mushroom, Stacked Pickle, Tilted Kilt, Hofmeister Jewelry, Ruth’s Chris and Bonefish.

50 percent of funds raised at the event will go toward the COPS Program.

Fox told 24-Hour News 8 Saturday night that after three more rounds of rehabilitation he can return as a full-time officer by the end of January.
