INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Four downtown businesses were evacuated Thursday morning after a delivery driver ruptured a gas meter in the 600 block of E. Washington Street.
Firefighters say they could smell the fumes for blocks. As soon as they arrived on scene, firefighters evacuated the Chef’s Academy, Flanner and Buchannan, Harrison College and a small distribution company.
It took firefighters and Citizen’s Gas workers about 30 minutes to shut the three inch main off.
Firefighters vented the buildings and the evacuated employees were then allowed to return to their businesses.
The delivery driver told firefighters he had made more than 100 deliveries to The Chef’s Academy but the sun caught his eye and he backed over the meter.
