INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An award ceremony was held Friday night to honor students in grades six through 11 who are committed to public service and social responsibility.

24-Hour News 8’s Daniel Miller emceed the event that featured powerful stories of teens, including that of a young boy who helped 56 unemployed military veterans get jobs.

The boy, who is not old enough to have a work permit of his own, is one of five young people who was honored nationwide with a Power of Children Award from the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Other stories involve students who provided suicide prevention to fellow peers, helped 15,000 orphans in the U.S. and India access education and avoid crime, and raised funds for more than 18,000 young disaster victims in China, Japan, Haiti and the U.S.

Awards were given at the Lilly Theater.
