INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A woman was scalped during a horrific go-karting accident over the weekend, and some say such an incident, unfortunately, isn’t surprising.
Some associated with the sport said Monday that the accident, which happened Sunday at Whiteland Raceway Park, is indeed shocking – but not isolated.
Greg Wright, owner of Rapid Racing in Indianapolis, pointed out that no state agency oversees go-karting, though the World Karting Association has specific rules in place to prevent such accidents.
Wright said he saw a similar accident first hand years ago, and ever since then, he has tried to put an end to such incidents.
"The instructions are there to keep you safe,” he said. “And the hair containment thing is one of my personal peeves, and I witness it a lot of times - and I preach about it a lot of the time too!”
24-Hour News 8 reached out to the Whiteland Raceway Park, but the business said it is not commenting on the accident at this time.
