'Good samaritan' reunited with family after fire

A mother is reunited with the woman that saved her 1-year old child.

We told you Tuesday about a good Samaritan who pulled a baby from a burning home.

LaDonna Thomas didn't want anyone to know who she was. In fact, after she pulled 1-year-old Vernon Williams from a bedroom inside the home, she left.

But she came back Tuesday simply to bring the family some clothes, and she finally found them on Wednesday.

Vernon Williams’ mom, 32-year-old Rashida Alsum, was also hoping to personally thank the woman who saved her child.

“I knew, I had to find her,” said Alsum.

Wednesday, the two women met with a fierce hug in front of the home of a relative.

“I thank you so much from the bottom of my heart,” said Alsum.

“You are welcome, girl,” said Thomas. Thomas lost a daughter herself seven years ago.

“You gotta enjoy everyday God gives you with them. Do not take it for granted,” she said.

Thomas also got to hold little Vernon, the boy she risked everything to save Tuesday.

“You never know, he could be our next president, our next general.. God got something planned for him,” she said.

At this point, Rashida, her two sons, and her boyfriend are staying with relatives while they figure out what to do next.

The two families now plan to keep in touch. It turns out these strangers lived just blocks away from each other before the fire.
