INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A historic piece of racing history will be removed from an Indianapolis building Tuesday for restoration.
The 1950s Indianapolis 500 roadster that sits atop the Safety Auto Glass building on 112 Southeastern Avenue will be removed at 11 a.m. The race car will be removed by crane.
Sam Hanks drove the vehicle to a runner-up finish in the 1956 Indianapolis 500. Since 1961, the car has sat atop the Safety Auto Glass building on the east side.
Recently, members of the Indianapolis-based International Motorsports Industry show and Schroeder Racing Products purchased the car.
The car will be removed Tuesday so the new owners can begin to restore it.
