INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The U.S. Attorney is looking for homeowners who have been wronged.
Joe Hogsett announced a search for people who may qualify for part of a $335M settlement with Countrywide Financial.
The money will go to African-American and Hispanic borrowers who were charged higher fees and interest rates than white customers.
Hogsett believes about 1,300 people in Indiana qualify for the money, but less than a thousand have taken the steps to get their share.
“If you are an African American; if you are a Latino who lives in Indianapolis, who applied for a Countrywide home loan between the years of 2004 or 2008, don't call tomorrow, don't call next week. Please call today,” Hogsett said during a Thursday morning announcement.
24-Hour News 8 found an Indianapolis man who believes he may qualify. He says he was paying 17 percent interest on his loan from Countrywide. But he was evicted after the house was foreclosed.
The number to call is 1-800-843-5148 or e-mail info@CWFLSettlement.com. The deadline for the applying is March 29. Information is available in both English and Spanish. Copies of the form are available online .
