INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro Police say an Indianapolis homeowner shot the man who had broken into his home early Friday morning.
The home is in the 5600 block of Willowridge Court in Decatur Township.
The homeowner, Wallace Turner, told police he, his wife and 5-year-old daughter were sleeping around 1:45 a.m., when the intruder kicked in the back door.
Turner said he grabbed his handgun and ran down the hall to confront the burglar who was standing in his living room.
Turner said, "He wasn't getting past me. My wife and daughter were behind me."
At that point, Turner said, the burglar lunged at him; Turner fired the gun twice, striking the burglar in the leg.
The burglar, he said, ran out of the house but collapsed on the the back porch.
Turner held the wounded burglar at gunpoint while his wife called 9-1-1.
Turner told 24-Hour News 8 the burglar repeatedly said "sorry" as they waited for police. Wallace said his only response was "don't move."
The unidentified burglar was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police say he will face charges including burglary and residential entry.
Police are looking into a possible connection to two other homes in the neighborhood that were also broken into.
