INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis woman is out of a home after a candle she left burning in her bathroom caught her duplex on fire Tuesday.

Collyns Smith, 36, told Indianapolis Fire Department she had walked down the street to the store, leaving a candle burning in her home in the 500 block of North Sherman Drive. While she was gone, neighbors reported a fire to a passing Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer, IFD said.

Firefighters had the fire under control in 15 minutes and were able to contain the flames to the bathroom, but heat and smoke damaged Smith’s entire side of the duplex. Damage was estimated at $15,000.
