INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - While businesses prepare to welcome thousands of football fans some social justice groups are trying to make sure the celebration surrounding the Super Bowl doesn't include incidents of human trafficking.
Sunday, the congregation at Grace Assembly listened to a message they don’t normally hear on Sunday morning. It's all part of a move to stop human trafficking incidents linked to Super Bowl fun.
Mike Bartel says groups like his want to see what they can “do to make Indianapolis a difficult place for pimps and traffickers to prosper.”
“Super Bowl brings added demand and money into a community which increases likelihood of trafficking,” he said.
F.R.E.E International, a group that works with law enforcement agencies, has partnered with area hotels in an effort to stop the illegal activity.
They aren't alone. Gov. Mitch Daniels has asked officials to "toughen" laws ... plus eleven congregations of Catholic nuns are providing similar outreach.
Ahead of last year's Super Bowl, religious nonprofits in Texas stepped up efforts similar to what we will see here.
