INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana State Police has confirmed that a semi-truck overturned at I-70 eastbound at northbound I-465 on the west side.
The accident occurred at mile marker 73.0.
The driver got out of the truck on his own. He is alert and was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital to be checked out.
Police say a failure in a rear axle caused the accident.
The truck was carrying around 42,000 pounds of metal, police say. Workers are currently unloading all of that metal on the scene. They predict they will be working at the incident until the early morning hours.
The on-ramp is shut down until it is cleared.
The Indiana Department of Transportation encouraged drivers to seek alternate routes.
