INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. has named its new director of safety and security.

Bettye Dobkins is responsible for leading IDI’s efforts in creating and implementing programs that will make downtown Indianapolis safer.

Bettye Dobkins holds the new, full time position for IDI.

Current and recent programs include Downtown Security Partnership, Bike Patrol, Safety Notice Network and Street Order Task Force.

"IDI will be able to collaborate with partners even more to ensure that Indianapolis continues to have one of the safest Downtowns in the country," said Sherry Seiwert, IDI president. "Bettye's expertise combined with her strong working relationships with local law enforcement made her a solid choice for this new position."

Dobkins was formerly downtown district’s deputy chief for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

She most recently served as a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department assigned to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Dobkins has worked with IDI on crime prevention downtown and safety programs when she was assigned to IMPD Downtown District.
