Firefighter slightly injured battling fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indianapolis Firefighters are on the scene of an extra alarm fire at a two-story apartment building near east 22nd Street and North College Avenue.

The fire broke out shortly after 6 a.m. Friday.

The first fire units on the scene reported heavy smoke and fire on the second floor. Flames broke through the roof of the building.

We received word that one firefighter was slightly injured in the fire, he was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Multiple units are on scene.

College Avenue is currently closed at 22nd Street. Please use caution when traveling this route.
