INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Officials say one person was injured during a heavy fire Saturday morning.

According to a release from IFD, a fire broke out at the International Village Apartments in Speedway around 2:15 a.m. Crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire and smoke showing from the building.

While extinguishing the fire, crews were forced to send out a “Mayday” because the second story stairs collapsed and firefighters had no way out of the building. The firefighters safely escaped the fire via ladders.

Officials say one man was injured in the incident.

The Wayne Township Fire Department is still investigating the cause of this fire.
