Illegal dumpers target east side church

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Pastor Darryl K. Webster of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church is tired of dumpers littering the church’s campus at 4958 Ribble Road.

Church members built a fence around the church’s campus; however, someone tore part of it down and left junk again.

“We are fighting back if they have some issue they can come right inside the church and get help,” said Webster.  “But the church is not going to stand inside the four walls and let them dump on our property.”

The church recently upgraded its security and placed hidden cameras around the church. Some members have even conducted their own investigation and found an envelope with an address near some discarded items that were recently dumped. Those findings have been turned over to IMPD.

“We are doing our best to protect it with cameras and things,” said Webster. “All we are asking is for the city to come along and help us.”

Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church has been in the news before. The church currently runs a successful Men’s Boot Camp. Every fall, 300 men meet at the church starting at 5:45 a.m.  The goal of the camp is to teach young men and men how God equips them to face life’s challenges.

According Indianapolis Code Enforcement if dumpers are caught a judge can fine the culprits $2,500; however there is no jail time connected with the fine.
