Girl, 14, arrested for murder of cousin, 4

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Homicide detectives have arrested and preliminarily charged a 14-year-old girl with murder in connection with the stabbing death of her 4-year-old cousin.

The suspect was questioned at IMPD Headquarters and then taken to the Juvenile Detention Center to be processed Sunday morning.

The 4-year-old, who has been identified as Leon Thomas III, was at the home of his grandparents in the 2700 block of North Graham Avenue when the stabbing occurred.

He was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in critical condition, but died later at the hospital.

The suspect has been arrested as a juvenile.

The Marion County Prosecutor's office will decide on her specific charges and whether those charges will be in juvenile or adult court.
