INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An audio and video surveillance device was found in Indianapolis Police Deputy Chief Bill Benjamin’s office early Friday morning or late Thursday night; prompting an internal investigation.

“I did not put it there, did not have anyone put it there, nor did the director. I have opened an internal investigation to find out who did,” said Indianapolis Chief of Police Paul Ciesielski.

The surveillance device was discovered after Benjamin requested an electronics sweep of his office.

Benjamin was allegedly involved in a scuffle with Indiana State Police Master Trooper Wayne Billings, sparking internal investigations by both agencies.

Indiana State Police say they have no knowledge of the bug.

The office of Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard released the following statement late Friday afternoon:

"The mayor is briefed on this matter and fully supports Chief Ciesielski's decision to open an internal investigation."
