INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - “We’re going to celebrate the life of a warrior,” said Lt. Spencer Moore (Ret.), the father of fallen Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer David Moore as he and wife Jo Ann addressed the media following the passing of their son.
Police announced that Moore passed away early Wednesday morning after being shot Sunday by a man suspected of driving a stolen vehicle.
His father thanked the city for their support and the doctors who “did everything possible within medical science to save him,” as he told the media that doctors were preparing to harvest his organs.
“Somebody’s going to get a darn good heart,” his mother, Jo Ann Moore, an IMPD Sergeant, said as she spoke of her son’s sense of duty to serve others.
“He will continue to serve others by giving them the gift of life,” Spencer Moore said.
“A mother never wants to bury their child,” Jo Ann said, “But if David had to go this is the way he would’ve wanted to go…for the community he served.”
Public Safety Director Frank Straub confirmed Moore’s passing saying he was pronounced dead at 6:18 a.m.
Officer Moore became part of the force back in 2004 and was awarded the title 'Rookie of the Year.'
Moore graduated from Roncalli High School and Purdue University.
He was 29 years old.
Moore's father indicated funeral plans were in the works and would probably not be until next week.
