INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer was injured Monday morning while chasing a suspect on the city's west side.
Around 4 a.m., police were called to the 4700 block of West Washington Street on a report of a suspicious person.
A witness told police they saw a man breaking into cars across the street from that location. The first arriving officer spotted someone matching the description and attempted to stop him.
The suspect fled on foot and the officer gave chase. At one point the suspect went over a fence.
Police say that's when the officer sustained a minor injury that did require that he go to the hospital to be checked out.
Officers remained in the area searching for a suspect described as a black male, 6-foot-3 to 6-foot-4 tall, stocky build and wearing black overalls.
