INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A confrontation between police and a suspect Tuesday night left a man in critical condition with gunshot wounds from an officer’s gun.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was still investigating Wednesday morning the incident that began around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. As of 11 a.m., police say the suspect's condition improved to serious, but stable.
Officers were initially called to Patty’s Show Club, in the 2400 block of West Washington Street, when workers said a man acting odd and unruly was asked to leave the bar. Employees said the man threatened them, saying he would return to “shoot the place up.” Workera called police.
After officers found someone matching the man’s description, they got out of their patrol cars and were met with gunfire from him, IMPD officials said. No officers were hit.
A foot chase ensued, going through the west side neighborhood. Eventually, police say, the suspect turned around and aimed a gun at them again. At that point, officers fired at him, striking him multiple times.
The suspect was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Charges are expected.
IMPD didn’t immediately release the names of the officers or suspect.
