INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was searching Monday morning for a man they believe shot and killed a woman on the city’s far north side. Police have identified 21-year-old Christopher Woods as a suspect.
The woman, 21-year-old Sparkle Majors, was shot in the head and died shortly after, police say. Nearby Greenbriar Elementary School, Fox Hill Elementary School and Westlane Middle School were on lockdown Monday as a result of the shooting, but all of those lockdowns were lifted.
Around 7 a.m., IMPD was called to Presidential Estates Apartments in the 1700 block of Century Circle South on reports that someone was shot. The woman's two children were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, but it's unclear if they witnessed it. Family members say Woods is the farther of one of the children. Family members also say Woods and Majors were a couple.
IMPD officials describe Woods as a light-skinned, skinny black man. He has a high fade hair cut with curls on top. He was last seen wearing a dark shirt and dark pants. Witnesses told police they saw him running south from the apartment complex, which is near West 79th Street and Harcourt Road.
