A day after naming a new interim police chief in the wake of evidence mishandling , IMPD announced promotions of three other officers to leadership posts.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief of Investigations William Lorah will now serve as assistant chief of police, the department said in a statement. Maj. Gregory Bieberich will now serve as deputy chief of investigations, and Capt. Harold Stephen “Steve” Turner has been promoted to major in the professional standards division.
Lorah is an IU graduate joined the Marion County Sheriff’s Department in 1986. He has more than 20 years of experience in investigations, with assignments in internal affairs, sex crimes, child abuse, robbery and homicide.
Bieberich, a native of Indianapolis and an IU graduate, joined IMPD in 1984. Since April of 2010 he has served as the assistant division commander of the IMPD investigations Division. He has also worked in the operations and administrative divisions.
Turner, a Shelby County native and an IU graduate, as well as an IUPUI Police Academy graduate, joined IMPD in 1996. Prior to that he worked for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. He was most recently the coordinator for the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team and is captain over the policy and accreditation unit. He has also worked in the operations, DWI investigations and crash investigations units.
