INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A woman who neighbors say helped provide the homeless a place to get off the streets is dead.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating it as a possible homicide.
911 operators received a call around 8:45 Thursday night saying a neighbor was outside screaming that someone was inside bleeding.
A man told police he found the woman lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. EMS crews arrived on the scene and pronounced the woman dead.
"I was pretty shocked," said Angie Kenley, who works at Bokay Florist nearby. "I passed it last night coming home from a festival, and I was like, 'Oh my goodness, what's going on over there?' So it is kind of sad."
Friday afternoon, authorities identified the woman as 45-year-old Kathryn Beilouny. Friends remember her as Kathy with a big heart.
"If she saw you and you were hungry and you asked her for a dime or a dollar, she would give it to you or she would bring you to her house and feed you," said Kathy's friend Debbie Keegan.
The home is located in the 5800 block of North Keystone Avenue, near Kessler Boulevard. One person was being questioned by police, but they were not calling him a suspect.
Police say the home had been entered using force, and they were treating the incident as a homicide. Investigators said they don't believe it was a random act of violence, and her friends don't believe that either.
"Kathy was a good person. She didn't deserve to be murdered, and I know she was murdered," Keegan said.
Anyone with information about the case should contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous, and information that leads to felony arrest may be eligible for cash reward.
