BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) - The Secretary of Transportation came to Beech Grove Friday to assure Amtrak workers that their jobs are secure.

Ray LaHood toured the Amtrak repair facility along with Congressman André Carson and Amtrak President Joe Boardman.

Afterward he addressed the more than 100 workers telling them the Obama Administration's commitment to high speed rail is good for them.

“It'll take us a couple decades to get to the kind of passenger rail service that Americans want. This facility and these workers will be at the starting gate as we begin high speed rail and it will continue for a couple of decades,” said LaHood.

“You know you always had to worry about your job here and now I feel a lot more protected now,” said Bill Fox an Amtrak worker.

Amtrak received more than a billion dollars in federal stimulus funds.
