Indy airport's old terminal slated for demolition

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The passenger terminal that was once the heart of Indiana's largest airport is moving toward demolition four years after the debut of its $1.1 billion replacement.

Officials had hoped to lure new development to the Indianapolis International Airport's old terminal, but the sluggish economy and the building's aging infrastructure means it will be razed instead.

Airport Authority board Chairman Michael Wells tells The Indianapolis Star that the old terminal will be demolished gradually, starting with buildings next to the parking garage. But Wells says the old multistory garage will be saved because it's still in good shape.

Few people have been inside the old terminal since its furnishings were auctioned off. Wells says the old concourses aren't the image officials want airport visitors to see.
