Indy rep checks out Super Bowl 47

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A year after Super Bowl 46, members of the host committee in Indianapolis got together to reminisce Sunday.

Meanwhile, 2012 Host Committee CEO Allison Melangton spent her weekend in New Orleans, first at a future host city seminar, then checking out the football festivities to see how New Orleans put on their party.

“New Orleans has declared they're bidding in 2018, which is the year we're interested for in Indianapolis also,” said Allison Melangton, 2012 Host Committee CEO. “What we're really looking at down here is what's outside the stadium, and what New Orleans is doing as a community as they're looking to bid on ’19. So much of the Super Bowl these days is the events that are outside of the actual football game, all the ancillary things, and Super Bowl village, Super Bowl Boulevard, and so forth.”

She says New Orleans has a Super Bowl Boulevard, similar to our Village. Mardi Gras celebrations at the same time are bringing in a different flavor as well.

“It’s different here, because it really is adult focused, especially with the combination of Mardi Gras,” added Melangton. “The thing that’s very different from what we did, is we had a ten day celebration of football, here they've really focused on the four day celebration.”

Melangton says she knows all bids in the coming years are going to be competitive. Multiple cities have announced they’re considering a bid, including New Orleans, Minneapolis, and Denver, among others.

“More communities are building stadiums, more communities are making the best of the Super Bowl experience for their community, so it’s becoming more and more competitive.”

Back at home, members of the 2012 Host Committee got together downtown Sunday.

“It’s a little sad not to be in the midst of the Super Bowl, but it’s really exciting to be back here with old coworkers and friends,” said Lisa Talley, who served as executive assistant to Allison Melangton for Super Bowl 46.

"Indianapolis certainly showed the world what we had to offer to them when they were here in 2012,” added Dianna Boyce, who was director of communications for the Super Bowl in 2012.

In August, Melangton says the city will likely submit an interest form to NFL team owners. NFL owners then pick who they would like to entertain bids from.

If chosen, Indianapolis will submit its bid for 2018, in May of 2014.
