INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis school district is among 55 nationwide that will share nearly $400 million in federal grants to promote school reform.

The Education Department says the Warren Township school district on the Indianapolis east side is expected to receive about $29 million from President Barack Obama's Race to the Top competition. This year's version let districts, rather than states, apply. The goal is to promote local solutions and personalized learning.

The grants range from $10 million to $40 million. More than 300 proposals were rejected.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan says the winners demonstrated a vision to go beyond a one-size-fits-all model for reform.
