INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The new baby elephant at the Indianapolis Zoo has a name.
Zoo officials announced Thursday that the elephant has been named Nyah after a weeklong Facebook poll.
Nyah means "purpose" in Swahili. The name was one of three chosen by zookeepers for voting.
The name Nyah received 63 percent of the votes and beat out Ebony and Moza.
The female calf was born June 28 after being conceived through artificial insemination. She is the third calf for a 30-year-old African elephant named Ivory.
Nyah is the second elephant calf born at the zoo since July 20, 2011. The zoo plans to mark the first birthday of another elephant named Kalina on Friday.
