INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The new head of the Catholic Church in Indianapolis will be installed Monday.
Archbishop Joseph Tobin will become the sixth archbishop for the Indianapolis diocese.. which overseas 225,000 Catholics in central and southern Indiana.
A Mass is set for 2 p.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The church will also stream the installation Mass on the archdiocesan website .
Tobin replaces Archbishop Daniel Buechlein, who was granted early retirement in 2011 for health reasons.
He was ordained a priest in 1978, the Vatican said. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis noted on its website that Tobin, who is the oldest of 13 children, has served as a priest in Detroit and Chicago. He also speaks several languages, including Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese, and reads several other languages.
