INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Investigators have ruled the massive fire last week in downtown Indianapolis an accident.

Indianapolis Fire Department said its investigators, along with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the federal Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, concluded their investigation at noon Tuesday at 16th and Broadway streets, finding no indication of arson.

Heavy equipment moved debris, and dogs trained to sniff out accelerants reviewed the scene. The scene of the massive fire, which ravaged an apartment complex under construction on Friday, has been turned over to private sector investigators, IFD said, and that investigation is expected to last several days.

IMPD said 16th Street will remain closed until about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
